 What are they and why do I need one?

Last Will and Testament: Your last will and testament is a legal document that specifies your intentions regarding the disposition of your estate, the payment of funeral expenses and debts, and provides for the care of minor or incapacitated children. ​This document is the least expensive and effective way to ensure that your directives are carried out regarding how your assets and personal possessions are distributed after your death. Everyone should have a last will and testament, regardless of the value of their possessions. ​

Estate: this refers to the property, real and personal, that is left when you pass such as your homestead, vehicles, personal items, bank accounts, stocks and retirement accounts. ​accounts. ​

Trust: a “new” identity that holds property in “trust” for the benefit of someone else based on terms you have indicated. Probate: this refers to the process in which a descendants estate is transferred as per their will or by intestate laws if one did not leave a will. Testate vs. Intestate: if one dies with a will, they died testate and if one dies without a will, they died intestate.
